BURNLEY YTH 3 IPSWICH TOWN YTH 1

STEVE Hewitt was at the double tonight to help Burnley come from behind to progress to the last 16 of FA Youth Cup, and extend their winning run to 13 games.

Watched by manager Eddie Howe, the young Clarets made a bright start against Ipswich's Academy side but could not convert their early chances.

Adam Evans was unlucky after linking well with Shay McCartan on the left of the box, Archie Love deserved a goal for a delightful spin inside the area, while Hewitt fired over from 20 yards.

Ipswich began to look a threat, and after a near miss at the far left post from Tom Winter's cross, Byron Lawrence rattled the angle with a right foot drive.

McCartan continued to cause problems, and full back David October was booked for bringing the striker down after Hewitt intercepted a pass inside his own half and launched a counter attack.

But Ipswich took the lead in the 43rd minute.

It was a poor goal for Burnley to concede, after they failed to deal with Winter's corner and Lawrence bundled the ball home, in-off goalkeeper Joshua Cook at his near post.

But Hewitt equalised from the spot on the stroke of half-time after Love made an angled run into the box, only to be brought down by right back Aaron Jones on the edge.

Burnley were buoyant at the start of the second half and made their pressure count.

The eye-catching McCartan cleverly held the ball up and waited to meet Hewitt's strong run forward, squaring for the midfielder to execute a confident finish.

The Clarets established a two-goal cushion just before the hour, courtesy of an own goal by midfielder Joe Wright.

Jason Gilchrist burst onto Alex Coleman's powerful header forward from the halfway line, and rounded the keeper, with Wright fluffing his efforts to deal with the danger.

The Clarets face a trip to either West Brom or Reading in the next round.
