Burnley's Steve Cotterill has again quashed speculation suggesting he leads the race to land the vacant manager's job at West Bromwich Albion.

According to reports, Albion are confident of naming Cotterill as their boss next week after Coventry refused them permission to speak to Mickey Adams.

Although Burnley insist no contact has been made from the Baggies, Cotterill remains the favourite among bookmakers to land the post, with Luton's Mike Newell and Hibs' Tony Mowbray also in the frame.

Cotterill said: "To be honest, things stands exactly the same as it was the last time you asked me the question.

"Nothing has changed. I would imagine that if West Brom are interested in talking to me, my chairman would tell me.

"But I would imagine they would contact my chairman first, if that's the case."
