STEVE Kean will hold talks with want-away defender Chris Samba on Friday and will make it clear to Blackburn Rovers’ skipper he is ‘not for sale’.

The Rovers boss declined to comment directly on quotes made by Samba in a French newspaper today stating he is ready to ‘move on’ but was adamant he does not expect the giant centre back to leave this month.

Ahead of Saturday's crucial Premier League visit of Fulham, Kean revealed two bids from one club have already been rejected for Samba, understood to be from QPR, and that no other bids were welcome.

Samba told L’Equipe he wants to find an “ambitious club” after claiming things have not gone as he was told at Blackburn Rovers under owners Venky’s.

Blackburn Rovers had a bid rejected for Fulham striker Andy Johnson today, with Cottagers boss Martin Jol insisting he was not planning on selling him.

About Samba’s interview in L’Equipe, Kean said: “I'll get it translated and I'll have a chat with him about it on Friday.

“He's not said anything like this to me, so it was a surprise to me that article has come out. But I'll speak to him directly, get his views and we'll take it from there.

“I know I can sit down and speak to him. I get on very well with him and I'll put some football points across. I'll listen to anything that has changed in Chris's head and I'll pass it on to the directors and the owners.

"If something has changed, if he's been misquoted as he tells me has often been the case in the past, I can't comment till I've spoken to him.

“You'd have to ask Chris what his perception of the club is, I don't know. I can only say to him we all want him to stay at the club. He's in the middle of a long contract and that works both ways - we committed to him and him to us."

This is not the first time Samba has stated his desire to move to a more ambitious club but sources close to Venky’s and Kean himself insist they will be not swayed into selling him.

"I would echo the statement of the club,” said Kean. “He's not for sale. I'll be telling him that on Friday. We'll have some dialogue and hopefully get him in the right frame of mind to continue to play here.”

Samba told L’Equipe: “Lately, mentally, it has been difficult. I tried to maintain my level of performance, but I sense that it is time for a change. The club doesn’t evolve at all. I’m resigned.

"I’ve always put the interests of the club before my own. I’ve invested a lot, always tried to lead by example, but things have not gone as I was told. I hope people will understand me.’ “There are Leonardo, Ancelotti (at PSCG)... I’m sure they will bring in great players. We shall see if the interest is confirmed or not, but it would be good for me to return home.

"The most important thing is to find an ambitious club. I would love to experience something different."

Kean also insisted Rovers were ‘active’ in the transfer window as he again moved to deny suggestions he had to sell a player before he could bring one in.

He claimed last week he hoped to bring four new players in this window and remained confident he would be allowed to improve the squad where it is needed.

He said: "It's slow everywhere but we've been very very busy over the last eight or nine days. Clubs are deciding to be slow in responding.

"We're actively trying to improve the areas I think need improving and I'm confident we'll get people in. We're active - there's things out there that clubs are sitting on before we've moved anyone, so that's as positive as we can be."
