DARWEN boss Steve Mullen has challenged Paddy Lauber to fill the void left by Leigh Smith who is out with a broken ankle.
Smith suffered the fracture while playing Sunday League football last week and Mullen has urged midfield partner Lauber to pick up the reins.
Mullen said: "Leigh has been our best player this season so losing him is a bitter blow.
"But it is up to players like Paddy to rise to the challenge and this is the perfect opportunity for him to show what he is capable of."
Steve Shackleton will start up front for the trip to New Mills with Neil Almond slotting in to midfield.
And keeper Daniel Holland, signed from Ramsbottom, is also in the squad.
