DAVID Dunn insists Rovers can defy the odds to secure Premier League survival – but admits experienced reinforcements are needed.

The stalwart midfielder believes Monday’s brave 1-1 draw at Anfield showed they have not lost the fight to retain their top flight status but knows the importance of a busy transfer window.

Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Manchester United, Dunn is one of seven injury doubts as under fire boss Steve Kean is again forced to field a youthful squad.

Kean hopes Sunday’s opening of the window will see several new faces added to the squad and Dunn believes that is just what is needed to breath new life into their survival bid.

He said: “It is going to be important that the club back the manager and bring in some experienced, good players.

“We need some good players that know what it is all about and, if the club make these signings, we can be one of these teams who are bottom at Christmas and can climb out of it.

“We do all still believe. The last three results before Anfield were hard to take but we feel as if we can build on the results and get back up the league table.

“The draw at Liverpool shows we are still fighting and we have to carry on fighting. That is what we have to do. We have to keep going, keep working hard, keep working in training.”

Rovers’ last visit to Old Trafford saw a 7-1 drubbing and, ultimately, the removal of Sam Allardyce by then new owners Venky’s.

Now, Dunn accepts the daunting task that lies ahead but believes Monday’s draw at Anfield shows there is still the spirit in the camp to inspire an upturn in fortunes.

He told Rovers player: “Manchester United is a tough, tough game for every team but if we show a bit of resilience hopefully we can nick another point.

“If you are confident you look a yard quicker, you make the right decisions. The fans who came to Liverpool were right behind the team and that is what we need.

“We are bottom of the league and as footballers it is our job to stick together and work as much as we can to get out of this rut we are in.

“It is hard work for the youngsters to come into a struggling team with not much confidence. They work hard and are top lads around the place, are good professionals and I am sure this will stand them in good stead for their career – whether it be here or elsewhere.”

Meanwhile, former Rovers target Vedad Ibisevic has ruled out a January switch away from Hoffenheim, with his intention to see out the season in Germany.

The Bosnia international came close to joining Blackburn over the summer before Ewood Park boss Steve Kean was eventually forced to abandon his plans to bring the striker on board as a niggling thigh problem prevented Ibisevic from undergoing a medical.
