STEVE Kean admits Blackburn Rovers can’t afford any ‘messing round’ as he looks bring in some fresh faces to make an instant impact.

The under fire Rovers boss is adamant their Premier League peril is down to the squad’s defensive injury woes and is hopeful that can be remedied early in the New Year.

Kean, who still insists his position is not under threat, has revealed he has already talks with his bosses about potential targets and recognises the importance of adding them as soon as possible.

Rovers travel to Anfield today rock bottom of the Premier League and, with just one team having ever recovered from such a position, are in serious danger of dropping into the Championship.

Kean’s cause has not been helped by injuries to Scott Dann, Martin Olsson, Ryan Nelsen, Gael Givet and, with Michel Salgado bizarrely given a ‘few days off’, but he insists January’s transfer window can breathe new life into the club.

He said: “I never spoke about Tuesday with the owners. We were speaking about the health of players and can we strengthen in the transfer windows.

“I put a list of names and positions in and lets get them in as soon as possible. That was a very positive situation and a very positive discussion.

“With the way the injury list is I don’t think we can mess about. Each game comes around so quickly, we need to get points on the board and get them quick.

“I have not been told I need to sell anyone. We have just spoken about the transfer window opening and getting the defenders we need in.”
