MONTENEGRO international Simon Vukcevic was still finalising his move to Blackburn Rovers last night.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder finished his two-day medical yesterday and is now hoping to put pen to paper after the weekend, and could even be in the crowd for Rovers’ Premier League visit to Villa Park today.
Boss Steve Kean continues to close in on a number of other transfer targets, including American defender George John and Bosnian striker Vedad Ibisevic.
Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim yesterday denied reports that an official bid from Blackburn Rovers had been accepted for their Bosnian striker Ibisevic.
Sources close to the player have confirmed there is firm interest from Rovers though and, while there is nothing concrete, negotiations between all parties will continue.
With Chris Samba and Ryan Nelsen potentially returning for today’s Villa Park test, Kean’s defensive problems are easing although he remains desperate to add at least one more defender before the window closes.
Kean said on Thursday he expected a defender to arrive for a medical yesterday and, while that did not materialise, Rovers remain confident of incomings next week.
Rovers are also understood to be waiting to hear whether Arsenal’s young midfielder Henri Lansbury is available.
