Some of the young lads in the Clayton End of the Crown Ground are starting to get worried about the season ahead.

They want instant results as the internet generation tend to – thankfully there are enough old heads around to reassure them that Rome was not built in a day.

John Coleman had to use his pre-season games to rebuild a squad and the team needs more match time to form the bond that is the hallmark of recent Stanley sides.

One or two players look a fortnight away from their best but the ability is of an unquestionable high standard.

If we can add a striker and possibly another midfield player then I think the competition for places will propel the current lads up another notch.

I should also point out that we have not had much luck in the first few games with penalty decisions going against us. Sometimes you feel like the world is against you.

This will even itself out over the season and there is still plenty to be happy about.

Young Nat Taylor came on as a sub on Saturday and looked a real livewire and Andy Procter has continued in the rich vein of form that had bigger clubs sniffing around him this summer.

The defence, it has to be said, is also looking strong and solid bar a couple of individual errors.

That all adds up to a more positive outlook on the season ahead.

Tonight we entertain Bradford, whose fans will be desperate for points after a poor start to the season.

We always do well against them and I see no reason why tonight should not be our first victory of the season.

As the team spends more time together the Coleman magic will inevitably rub off and the young lads on the Clayton End will be able to stop biting their fingernails.
