Eddie Howe is hoping for more joy against Burton Albion in Burnley’s Carling Cup clash at Turf Moor tonight.

A 2-0 win over the Brewers helped Howe clinch promotion to League One with Bournemouth in 2010.

Then he celebrated his first win as Burnley boss against Paul Peschisolido’s men in the FA Cup in January.

“We had a good game against them last year. I thought they did well up until we scored and were right in the game,” he said.

“A bit of magic from Chris Eagles and we were on our way.

“It was a difficult game and I think it will be a difficult game again.

“We're not going to underestimate them. We've had them watched and they've got a lot of energy in their side, they're very athletic.

“These games are difficult, and more so if you approach them in the wrong way.

“We've got to make sure we're professional.

“If we do that I'm sure we'll be fine.”

The Clarets boss made attempts to recall Republic of Ireland winger Keith Treacy and Scotland Under 21s forward Alex MacDonald from international duty for tonight’s Carling Cup first round game but was unsuccessful.

“We made calls to their respective managers, but they had to go,” he said.

“You have to respect the international managers and their jobs and their priorities.

“It is a shame because Alex would have been involved.

"He's done really well in pre-season. But it's a good chance for him to go with the national team and do well again.”

Kick off at Turf Moor is 7.45pm.
