BURNLEY Bobcats were ‘top dogs’ at the Liverpool Summer Sprint after winning no fewer than 53 medals.

The Bobcats scooped the top club award after finishing top of the table – beating 33 other swimming squads to the prize.

The event was the perfect opportunity for the club’s less experienced squad members to compete. And the Bobcats showed its strength in depth with every swimmer producing PBs in the pool – some of them knocking more than 10 seconds off their previous best.

The impressive medal haul included 26 golds, 17 silvers and 10 bronzes.

The biggest haul of medals went to 11-year-old Jamie Sharpley who scooped seven golds from seven races – setting new championship records in the process. He was closely followed in the medal stakes by Kerry Holding, 15, who won five gold medals while 10-year-old Harry Pilkington set two new records on his way to double gold. Marsha Banks, 17 and Elliot Norman, 10, each won three gold medals.

Erica Minozzi, 13, who was named top senior girl, Katie Rennolds, 13 and 12-year-old Ella Sheridan , who was top junior girl, won a gold medal each as well as picking up a clutch of silver and bronzes between them. Erica also swam to a new championship record.

Head coach, Michael Robinson, proved he can practice was he preaches bu winning gold in the 50m freestyle.

Silver medals were won by John Gray, Dean Moorhouse, Lucy Cole, Luke Pickles and Emma Fothergill.

And Megan Hall, 10, won a bronze in the 100m butterfly.
