A TOTAL of 160 junior and senior teams took part in the annual Multi Faith Football Tourn-ament.

The competition, now in its sixth year, was organised by Inter Madrassah – an organisation specialising in helping to increase the numbers of youngsters tak-ing part in sport.

And youngsters were out in force at the Power League, Blackburn competing in age groups from year five to year 11.

Teams travelled from across the North West but there was a particularly big turn out from those based in East Lancashire.

And local teams had plenty of reasons to cheer as they ended up winning five of the eight age groups.

Blackburn United won the senior age group, beating Blackpool Polish, while the youngsters winners on the day were St Peter’s Chorley who beat Blackburn United in the year five final.

Chorley United beat MGCAT in the year six fial with Blackburn side, Best of the Rest triumphant in the year eight final after victory over Inter Madria.

Daneshouse from Burnley beat Altom Rangers to be crowned year 10 champions.

Other winners were Dewsbury (Y7), Preston United (Y9) and the Brazilian Boys from Bolton (Y11).

The tournament was sponsored by Islamic Relief and Twin Valley Homes.

Moulana Tayyab Sidat, principle director of Inter Madrassah, thanked all the mosques and clubs for their help.

He said: “This would not be poss-ible had it not been for the support from our dedicated volunteers, sponsors and all the Madrassahs (mosques) and club who engage to make the event successful.

“We are committed to providing a platform for young people of various backgrounds and faiths to come together to positively and actively take part in various projects.

“Every year we have one main event and this tournament marks the success of the organisation.”
