MARK Ashworth chalked up his second victory of the month in Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit when he won the Wilpshire Trophy.
But it was a close call for the Clitheroe plus two player because he only got the verdict on countback from title-holder Ciaran Doherty.
Ashworth, who also won the Pleasington Antlers three weeks ago, compiled rounds of 66 and 68 – matched by the Bury youngster – for a four-under-par aggregate.
His cards revealed seven birdies and three bogeys as he moved into eighth position in the merit, 310 points behind Lancashire County champion John Carroll.
The Huyton and Prescot man has seen his lead whittled down to 90 points by Hillside’s Richie Blundell ahead of the Silver Goblet at Royal Birkdale on Sunday.
