SPIN twins Liam Riley and Babar Naeem both claimed five wickets as Baxenden ensured the Ribblesdale League’s top three kept up the pace as the title race continues to enthral with seven games remaining.

Bash’s efforts helped them gain on leaders Read and Barnoldswick, who both failed to bowl their opponents out, and now they sit level on points with Barlick with Read just three points clear.

Naeem failed with the bat as Baxenden went to Clitheroe but Callum Waddington batted well for 65 from 73 balls, while Mark Rishton made 42 and Lewis McIntosh hit 27.

Their efforts helped Bash to 202-7 from their 45 overs with home professional Kashif Siddique the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 5-56 from 14 overs.

Clitheroe’s reply started predictably briskly with Siddique looking to tee off – and he smashed three sixes and three fours on his way to 36 from just 20 balls.

But he failed to go on to make the score his team needed and Riley had him caught by Rishton with the score on 48.

Josh McDowell made 20 and Naeem Ashraf scored 25 but 79-1 became 100-4 as Bash upped the pressure and despite 40 from Andrew Pearce, Clitheroe were on the back foot with Riley and Naeem, who were introduced to the attack to stem the early tide, really turning the screw.

In the end late resistance from Farouk Butt, Hassan Fazal and 17-year-old Jack Houldsworth was only delaying the inevitable as Clitheroe were 183 all out.

Leaders Read racked up 284-8 in their Whalley Road clash with bottom club Settle and then Warren Eastham claimed five wickets as the Yorkshiremen were 168 all out as Read stayed out in front, while Barnoldswick were made to work hard for their win at Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.

Immanuel batted first at New Lane and Oliver Jones (93) and Chris Cook-Martin (87) helped them up to 229-5 – but Matt Nutter (55) was the mainstay as Barlick got home with three wickets in hand.

But the fireworks came at Whalley Road as brilliant Jonathan Harvey made 139 and Will Driver hit 82 as Read warmed up for their Ramsbottom Cup final in style.

Kamran Younas was on form yet again as Whalley maintained their fine run with a crushing win over Salesbury.

As the Red Caps batted first they lost Will Cook to the first ball off Younas and despite 16 from Susantha Pradeep, 14 from James Watson and 13 from James Rawlinson Salesbury were on the back foot.

Edward Foster top scored with 22 but Salesbury were 89 all out in 37.3 overs with Younas the star with 5-45 from 19 overs, while Simon Gorton (3-19) and Dave O’Neill (2-19) were also key performers.

Younas hit 35 of the first 39 runs of the reply before he went after four fours and two sixes.

Richard Lamb, who earlier held three catches, was 23 not out and skipper Richard Palmer made 17 as Whalley coasted home with more than 21 overs to go.

Padiham had a bad day as they lost by 21 runs at Earby, falling short after bowling Craig Walton’s men out for 118 at The Applegarth.

That loss was cruel on Padiham professional Chris Holt, who claimed eight wickets as John Bushell’s men tore through Earby before their shock collapse.

Edenfield’s revival continued as they beat Ribblesdale Wanderers.

Greg Smithson’s men knocked off Ribblesdale’s 180 all out with five wickets down.

It was also a good day for Cherry Tree as Andreas Sudnik’s men beat Great Harwood at The Cliffe.

They bowled Harwood out for 111 and then got home by eight wickets.
