BLACKBURN Rovers remain favourites to sign Dundee United striker David Goodwillie - after having a bid in the region of £2million accepted.

The 22-year-old striker is in negotiations with Rovers after being given permission to start talks by Dundee United.

Dundee United boss Peter Houston said: "It's no secret Blackburn are interested in him. The clubs have agreed a fee. David Goodwillie is likely to go if he can agree terms."

The fee is reported to be £2 million up front and another £800,000 of potential add-ons, with a sell-on clause included.

Houston added: "The chairman is happy with the offer Blackburn have made.

"I think Rangers have made an improved offer but he hasn't said to me whether he's happy with that or not.

The striker had initially hoped to undergo a medical at the club on Saturday but, after talks hit a slight snag, that will have to wait until after the weekend.

Scottish Premier League giants Ranger remain in the hunt for Goodwillie, although they have yet to have a bid accepted.

Responding to reports they have submitted a fresh bid, boss Ally McCoist added: "I don't know if it's accurate in terms of a fresh bid going in but I know our people have been talking to their people.

"I don't think he's a Blackburn player. He is a player we have made no secret about but he is still a Dundee United player and we have to show them a lot of respect.

"What I would say is, if we had an opportunity to bring David Goodwillie to Rangers, then I would like to take that."

The striker would cost Rovers almost £3million in total after add-ons.
