DARWEN look to put last weekend’s double disappointment behind them tomorrow as they face the brilliance of Barrow professional Pieter Malan in the Northern League at Birch Hall.

John Cordingley’s men were beaten by league leaders St Annes last Saturday and then suffered the heartache of losing the final of the Jamie Heywood Twenty20 competition to Kendal on Sunday.

And now they have slipped into the bottom half of the table – but they will move above Barrow if they can win the clash.

To do that they will have to quell the threat of Malan, who has 870 runs in all competitions and is on course to break the Barrow batting record – and the all-time league record of 1,381 runs established by Australian Callum Ferguson when at Netherfield is in his sights.

Chorley have also slipped off the pace but they will look to recover from last week’s loss to Morecambe when they face lowly Lancaster at Lune Road.

Tomorrow’s Fixtures: Blackpool v Preston, Carnforth v Netherfield, Darwen v Barrow, Lancaster v Chorley, Morecambe v Leyland, St Annes v Fleetwood
