DARREN Pattinson and Andre Adams dented Lancashire’s title bid as Nottinghamshire won their first County Championship match in eight attempts by 129 runs inside three days at Southport.

Resuming the third day at eight without loss in pursuit of 258, Lancashire subsided to 128 all out inside 51 overs midway through the afternoon session.

Pattinson, who had taken three wickets in Lancashire’s first innings, then clinched his first five-wicket haul of the season and just his third since making his only Test appearance for England against South Africa at Headingley three years ago.

The 31-year-old finished with five for 44 from 19 overs as Nottinghamshire took 20 points.

Adams claimed figures of four for 51 from 18 to return match figures of 10 for 122 after his six in the first innings.

Second-placed Lancashire, who only claimed three points, are now two points behind leaders Durham with both having played 11 matches.

Lancashire started the day and were 37 without loss before four wickets fell for only 14 runs.

The Red Rose county were unable to arrest that slide and slipped from 103 for 5 to 103 for 8 as their hopes of securing a result came to an end. Karl Brown top scored with only 23.
