LOAN star Kieran Trippier is hoping to use last season’s Championship experience as a springboard to success this term.

The 20-year-old Manchester City youngester arrived at Turf Moor this week fresh from a full season with Barnsley.

Manager Eddie Howe described him as a direct replacement for the departing Tyrone Mears.

And on-loan Trippier is relishing the responsibility of having a tough act to follow.

“I played against (Mears) last year obviously and I think he's a quality player,” said the Bury-born defender.

“He’s progressed and is playing in the Premier League again (with Bolton).

“I’ve come from what I feel is a bigger club and I’m just happy to play here.”

Trippier, who recently penned a new three-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, added: “I feel like I’m rated highly there, but I wanted to come out on loan to get more experience after signing my new contract.

“When I heard that Burnley were interested I definitely wanted to come here.

“It wasn’t a hard decision to make because it’s local and a very good team and a good club with good fans.

“I’ve gained loads of experience in the Championship and I feel I can take it further and keep progressing by playing with players like there is here at Burnley.

“I think I can become a better footballer.

“I’d like to thank Barnsley Football Club for giving me the opportunity to express myself last season.

“I played 41 games overall and every game I thought I was progressing and getting better and better.”
