NIKOLA Kalinic’s Blackburn Rovers future was left stuck in limbo last night – as Steve Kean looked set to make his first significant signing of the summer.

Rovers’ frustrated striker has returned home to Croatia as Venky’s and Ukraine outfit Dnipro hit a stalemate over his proposed move away from Ewood Park - leaving Kalinic unsure about where he will start next season.

Boss Kean, however, is confident of adding Serbian international Radosav Petrovic to his ranks today, subject to a work permit, after the midfielder underwent a successful medical at the club yesterday.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder is understood to have agreed personal terms with the club and is now expected to follow the inexperienced Myles Anderson into the club this summer, for a fee in the region of £3million.

Following yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League Asia Trophy opener, Kean has again reiterated his desire to bring a striker to the club as he waits for answers on a couple of active bids.

A Venky’s insider is confident a striker will be added before the start of the Premier League season, although it is believed no-one is yet imminent.

Kalinic’s departure would add to Kean’s transfer kitty this summer but, to the player’s frustration, owners Venky’s are currently holding out for more than the £6million being offered by Dnipro.

Sources close to Kalinic now fear the move is in jeopardy with Dnipro unwilling to increase their bid any further, having already raised their offer by £3million in total over the past few weeks.

Boss Kean would be willing to sell Kalinic, who cost Rovers £6m two years ago, but it is not yet known whether Venky’s will give up their attempts to get more money from the former Hajduk Split man.

Kalinic’s agent Tomislav Erceg, said: “It is a bad situation for Nikola.

"He is at home because the team is in Hong Kong and what else can he do?

“We have our fingers crossed something will happen in the next couple of days but we just don’t know.

"It has gone on a for a long time and nothing has been sorted.

“Nikola just wants to play football. It is a crazy situation because it looks impossible for him to play football at Blackburn.”
