BURNLEY had to settled for a goalless draw in a feisty pre-season friendly against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park tonight.
All eyes from the 880-plus travelling contingent were on new arrival Kieran Trippier, a season-long loan addition from Manchester City, who got off to an impressive start on his debut just hours after signing.
After a slow start, Martin Paterson came close to breaking the deadlock with the flick of his heel, while Ross Wallace fired another effort wide.
Paterson later cracked another half-volley straight at the Latics goalkeeper.
Tempers flared either side of the interval, and a number of Oldham players surrounded the referee following a challenge between Chris Taylor and Charlie Austin.
Eddie Howe made a number of changes during the second half as the game fizzled out.
Lee Grant did keep Burnley in the game with a smart stop from Matt Smith, who also fired a late effort wide.
Lee Grant (Jon Stewart 89); Kieran Trippier (Kevin Long 79), Michael Duff, Brian Easton, Danny Fox; Alex MacDonald, Marvin Bartley (Wes Fletcher 79), Wade Elliott, Ross Wallace (Joe McKee 90); Martin Paterson, Charlie Austin (Steve Hewitt 63).
Subs not used: Dominic Knowles, Alex-Ray Harvey.
