BURNLEY could step up their bid for Preston North End winger Keith Treacy this week.

I understand the Republic of Ireland international isn’t the only winger on Clarets boss Eddie Howe’s wanted list, with Millwall’s James Henry and Norwich wide man Anthony McNamee also on the radar.

But Burnley have already made enquiries about 22-year-old Treacy this summer and are now seeking a replacement for Chris Eagles as his move to Bolton Wanderers looked set to be completed today.

With Tyrone Mears also included in a joint £3million-plus deal, the right back berth has become the priority position for Howe.

After Burnley confirmed they had settled on a fee at the weekend, both players agreed personal terms yesterday and were expected to undergo a medical last night.

The duo are likely to be officially unveiled at the Reebok Stadium in the next day or two, by which time the Clarets are hoping to complete their second season-long loan signing of the summer.

Howe was keen to play his cards close to his chest until the deal was confirmed - possibly today - but I understand the player will be a replacement for either Mears or Eagles.
