BURNLEY defender Clarke Carlisle is today set to complete his move to rivals Preston North End, in what is likely to be a season-long loan.
The Preston-born 32-year-old, a hero of the 2009 promotion-winning team, has been in talks with his home-town team ahead of what will be the final year of his Clarets contract.
Manager Eddie Howe is keen to build a younger, squad for Burnley's Championship challenge.
Carlisle is set to finalise the deal today, after the clubs agreed terms.
Now Howe hopes the move will free up funds, and places, as he seeks to strengthen his squa.
“The clubs have agreed and now it's up for Clarke to agree,” confirmed the Burnley boss following Saturday's 4-2 win over Altrincham – the first of six pre-season friendlies.
“He’s been a fantastic servant for the club and we’re sorry to see him go but again we’re building for the future.”
