LOWERHOUSE and Accrington are locked together at the top of the Lancashire League as they both claimed crucial Saturday wins.

Meanwhile Todmorden’s winning run was ended by revitalised reigning champions Ramsbottom in the big-hitting clash of the day.

That loss saw Todmorden slip from the summit as Shanan Stewart starred with both bat and ball for Ramsbottom.

Stewart claimed 5-66 to help restrict Todmorden to 210-8 from their 50 overs. Simon Newbitt top scored with 64, while there were good contributions down the order as Todmorden piled the pressure on Ramsbottom.

But after losing Keith Webb for a second ball duck, Stewart hit a superb 95 and Jamie Pilling made 61 to steer Rammy on the road to victory before skipper Jon Fielding made 31 as his side got home with 10 balls to spare.

Lowerhouse are in form and beat Enfield by eight wickets. Asif Fazal top scored with 52 and Liam Jackson hit 44 as Enfield posted 195-7 but Lowerhouse eased to a win as Ben Heap (64), Hassan Khan (48 not out), Joe Martin (42) and Francois Haasbroek (36 not out) performed well.

Accrington collected maximum points from a 91-run win at Burnley as Ashar Zaidi hit 86 and Simon Hanson made 73 at Turf Moor.

Their efforts helped Accrington to a daunting 283-9 and despite several Burnley players getting starts, no-one could go on and they finished 192 all out.

Keith Roscoe passed 1,400 Lancashire League wickets and claimed his 99th five-wicket haul as Rawtenstall beat Nelson at Bacup Road.

Roscoe claimed 5-61 as Nelson were all out for 203 chasing Rawtenstall’s 218.

Pro Nilantha Cooray top scored with an explosive 90 to set up the score and Roscoe then went to work to stall Nelson’s reply despite David Crotty’s 49.

East Lancs beat Haslingden by 78 runs at Alexandra Meadows. John Turner top scored with 77 in the home sides 256-7 as he hit seven fours and two sixes from 104 balls.

But the batsman had an incredible escape when a Gary Sudworth delivery dislodged a bail – but the umpires were unsure of what exactly happened as the bail rocked before falling forward and Turner was reprieved.

David Pearson also made 39 and Ockert Erasmus hit a breezy 36.

The South African then claimed 5-74 as Haslingden closed on 178-9, Graham Knowles top scoring with 37.

Church lost by nine runs at home to Bacup. Saeed Anwar claimed 7-37 to bowl David Warren’s men out for 133. Church appeared to be coasting but they collapsed from 82-3 to 124 all out with Bacup sub pro Wes Fernando doing the damage, claiming 4-29 from 16 overs.

There was delight for Rishton as they avoided setting an all-time Lancashire League losing record by beating Colne at The Horsfield.

Colne posted 144 with sub pro Gulam Bodi claiming 5-51 before Rishton lost their skipper Jimmy Bibby first ball of their reply.

But Bodi made 57 and Irfan Mohammed 36 and Rishton could celebrate as they got home by four wickets.
