STEVE Kean has called for his beleaguered Blackburn Rovers to ‘use their anger’ – after watching them slump to the club’s longest winless run for 25 years.

The bullish Rovers boss refused to condemn his players despite a seeing a toothless 2-0 defeat at Everton make it 10 matches without a win, leaving them just two points above the drop zone.

Rovers had to wait until the 89th minute for their first shot on target at Goodison Park but, despite growing concern from the supporters, Kean insisted there would no panic after a dramatic slump down the Premier League.

He said: “We’ll be focused and angry in the way that we conceded sloppy goals and we’ll transfer that anger into positive energy for the next game.

“It’s just a run of bad results. It’s only Aston Villa away where I thought we were poor. I don’t think there have been any really poor performances.

"Our performances have been okay. We have to make sure those performances equal points.

“We’re certainly not complacent. We would really like to have got a win in the last few games, but we’re certainly not looking at it and thinking we are comfortable.

“As West Brom have shown, a couple of wins and people can overtake you very quickly."

The last time Rovers have gone 10 without a win was back in 1986 under Bobby Saxton and their recent demise sees them sitting above just Sunderland and Blackpool in the Premier League form guide.

Kean has remained positive throughout a tough start to managerial life and, despite seeing his side’s three-match unbeaten run crumble away on Saturday, insisted there were still positives to take from the defeat.

He said: “Before today we had gone three games unbeaten so it depends what way you look at it.

"I know we hadn’t won any of those, but we were focused on the little bit of momentum we had.

"Going to the Emirates and getting a point, getting a point against Birmingham, we were just chipping away.

“Now we’ve got two home games back to back and we’ve been great at home.

"We can go and take big steps instead of little ones.

"We’ve only lost seven games out of 41 or 42 at Ewood, we’re in very good form there.

“We’ll just pick ourselves up and work on the training ground on the bits of the second half, which we weren’t happy with, but I thought in the first half, we were excellent.”
