EDDIE Howe has told his players to take play-off pressure out of the equation and just focus on ending a winless run against Swansea tomorrow.

With six games of the season to go, including Tuesday’s game in hand against Middlesbrough, it is still mathematically possible for the Clarets to sneak into the top six.

But after picking up only one point from a possible 18, Howe is taking the rest of the season on a step-by-step basis to coax them out of their bad patch.

“I think we're capable of winning the remaining six games, and that's the target we've set ourselves. But we're not really looking at (what is) at the end of it, we're looking at trying to win a game,” said Howe.

“It (the play-offs) can still be done. Two home games – the next two – are going to be absolutely crucial.

“We're looking at trying to put a run together, but all we can do is focus on the next game.

“It's a tough one against Swansea, but we want to put on a performance for the fans. We want them to see how hard the team's working and that we're together, and I'm sure if they see that unity and that togetherness and that work-rate I'm sure they'll get behind us.”

Howe is particularly keen to make up for poor home performances against Millwall, Coventry and Ipswich.

“I don't think we performed and that's disappointing when you reflect back and think where we could have been,” he said.

“I don't think we've performed anywhere near our capabilities in any of those games.

“A home game's a chance to get back and a chance to hopefully let the crowd see the best of us.”
