BURNLEY will be without Marvin Bartley for the next three games after deciding against appealing his red card.

The midfielder was sent off for the second time in his career in the first half of Tuesday night’s game at Nottingham Forest, which the Clarets went on to lose 2-0.

Howe was infuriated by the decision, which he felt cost them the game.

However, he decided against appealing the dismissal because video evidence failed to exonerate the midfielder.

“You have a deadline the next day. We looked at it and it was so difficult with the camera angle to get any clear decision on it,” said the Burnley boss.

“Looking at photos of it as well we definitely didn't feel it was a red card.

"But you have to prove it and it's very difficult with the camera angle we were given because it was so far away.

“We decided not to appeal because there's a cost element and the fact that we have to clear Marvin's name.

"Because of the angle it was difficult to clear anything up because you can't really see it, unless we had Sky cameras where you have different angles.

“I'm sure that would show Marv went in one-footed, his feet never left the floor and it was an honest tackle. But we couldn't prove it with the angle that we had.

“You're guilty until proven innocent and we didn't have anything that would prove otherwise.”

Bartley will now miss Saturday’s visit of Swansea City, Tuesday’s home game against Middlesbrough and next weekend’s trip to Derby County.
