BRADFORD City have confirmed that their interest in Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman is over after branding the Reds’ compensation demands as ‘ridiculous’.

Bradford have drawn up a six-man shortlist as they search for a long-term replacement for Peter Taylor but they will not be following up an initial enquiry about Coleman’s availability.

The Bantams board are understood to have rated the Stanley boss highly for some time and were given permission to speak to him about the vacancy.

But the Reds’ compensation demands meant a deal was never going to be viable.

Bradford’s joint chairman Mark Lawn said: “He’s on a long-term contract and they wanted us to fulfil at least 50 per cent of that. No chance.

“There was no point in us interviewing him because the compensation was ridiculous.”

Caretaker boss Peter Jackson, John Hughes, John Still and Alan Knill are all reported to be in contention for the job.
