RUBEN Rochina gave Rovers boss Steve Kean food for thought this evening after impressing in the 2-1 win over Everton reserves.

The £500,000 signing from Barcelona in January fired home the opener from 20 yards for his second goal in two reserve games as he pushes for more first team involvement.

Rochina, 19, was paired with fellow January new boy Mauro Formica in attack but spent most of the game dropping deep and looking to dictate play.

He showed a sublime touch, good vision and the willingness to work and showed some signs that he could yet play a role in Rovers relegation fight this campaign.

Rovers fans were given their first glimpse of Argentinian play maker Formica, after a hamstring injury restricted him to just one behind closed doors appearance previously.

The £3.5m capture from Newell's Old Boys showed a nice touch at times but struggled to have much of an impact until flicking on for Evans to put Rovers back ahead.

Rovers took the lead when Rochina picked the ball up 20 yards from goal and, with little back lift, fired an unstoppable strike low past Everton goalkeeper Connor Roberts.

The visitors looked the more dangerous throughout and equalised on 55 when a defensive mix up allowed Apostolos Vellios to prod home from inside the penalty area.

Rovers retook the lead five minutes after some quick thinking by goalkeeper Mark Bunn.

The former Northampton man had his clearance flicked on by Formica and Micah Evans raced through on goal to slot the ball past Roberts.
