A draw away at Lincoln City should be seen as a respectable result – but with Stanley having 10 attempts off target and two on manager John Coleman was understandably upset at the two points lost.

As it stands – and given recent history – we are just seven points away from safety with 15 League Two games left to play.

The situation looks a lot better than it did at the start of February thanks to the 10 points coming from our last four games.

Ten, of course, is the number of hard won points that will be deducted should the club go into administration.

It looks like the whole future of the club now sits with an offer that current chairman Ilyas Khan has put to former chairman Eric Whalley.

This baffles a section of Stanley fans who were told Eric had walked away years ago.

I hope that both men can put their differences aside for the greater good of our club.

If we are to keep our star players like Jimmy Ryan and Terry Gornell then an agreement must be reached soon and long-term contracts must be sorted.

If this fails to happen then I fear we may lose players again in the summer to pay the taxman’s bills.

Tonight we take on our neighbours Stockport County who are having a torrid time of it this season.

Their club has not had the best of times but I am sure they will be looking to start a fight back today.

Their main downfall has been their leaky defence with a goal difference of minus 40 – and in comparison our of minus one looks solid.

Some of our recent performances have indeed looked like play-off contenders but we must be aware always that League Two survival is our first goal
