Blackburn Hawks head coach Jared Owen believes his team are capable of winning all their remaining matches and securing a play-off spot.

Owen’s confidence comes after seeing his in-form side come back from 2-0 down to thump second-place Coventry Blaze 7-3 at the Blackburn Arena on Sunday.

Hawks have now won three consecutive games in the England National Ice Hockey League, as they aim to keep climbing the table.

David Miekle and Rick Hughes put Blaze to the sword with two goals apiece, while Aaron Davies, Matt Viney and Owen himself also got on the scoresheet.

Owen said: “We went 1-0 down in the first period, but we had a lot of the play and their goalie played really well.

“We conceded another goal in the second period, but our players didn’t panic and after that we got back into the game.”

Hawks have hit top form at a crucial stage in the campaign, but Owen knows they will have to keep their good run going right until the end of the season.

He said: “We’ve beaten the teams placed fourth, third and second in our last three games, which shows how good our team is.

“Our excellent results in the past few weeks suggest that we should be higher up the league. If we keep playing like we are, we should carry on winning games, especially in five-on-five situations.”

Hawks have also scored an impressive 18 goals in those three games and Owen believes their luck is starting to change.

“We’ve started to get some luck and from that we are gaining confidence,” he added.
