There is only one week left of the transfer window and the posturing by unscrupulous agents and coveting managers will come to and end soon.

The window has developed into a three-stage process and most actual business is done in the last couple of days.

The crazy thing for me is that, despite having the whole of the month to unsettle players with tales of greener grass, we will hear again of players who just managed to beat the deadline by a matter of minutes.

I also feel that the window has introduced unnecessary pressure on managers.

The high expectations of chairmen and fans alike mean that the temperature can be turned up on a mid-table manager who looks like he might fail to get his team into the play-offs.

Chairmen see the window as the last chance for a new manager to make his mark on the team and sometimes it has to be said in an act to appease the fans, a new leader is brought in and the pressure on the board relents for a few weeks.

Fans need to be realistic in their ambition, which is not to say we should not all dream of winning the FA Cup and having the league sewn up by Easter, but in the back of our minds we should look long term at our clubs as a whole.

Infrastructure, debt, credibility of owners (through thorough financial and criminal record disclosure) and stability are some alternative league tables I would like to see introduced.

You may say I am naive to think that fans care about these things but the evidence is out there.

There is a growing number of disillusioned fans who are kept in the dark by foreign-owned multinational brands (they used to have a club now they have a trademark!) For me English football is at a cross roads and I feel a major change may only be a few seasons away, for now money talks but what happens when money walks?
