STUART Gray signed off his role as caretaker manager with Burnley’s first clean sheet in 15 games, and confirmed he has been asked to stay on the backroom staff by new boss Eddie Howe.

The former Bournemouth manager and his assistant, Jason Tindall, were in the stands to watch Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to QPR, before finalising a deal to become Brian Laws’ successor over the weekend.

Howe will unveiled at a press conference at Turf Moor today.

But having picked up four points from three league games in temporary charge, and progressed to the FA Cup fourth round with last weekend’s 4-2 win over Port Vale, Gray said he was pleased to be staying with the Clarets.

“I had a conversation with the chairman (on Friday) and he informed me that Eddie was coming in with Jason, and Eddie’s very keen for me to stay on board, so I’ll be having a conversation with him,” said the 50-year-old, who is likely to revert to his role as first team coach.

“He’s done a fantastic job at Bournemouth and has probably deserved this move for himself.

“He’ll be keen to start working with the players from (today) and they’ll be keen to impress.

“The new manager’s in and we can gear towards the future.”
