MANCHESTER City spend money like it is going out of fashion. The other big clubs are also ready to splash out on any hotshot in the world – as long as the player has an exotic name.

It isn’t just limited to the Premier League. This is a problem heading down through the Championship.

Clubs now do not seem keen to take a look into non-league for the next big thing.

And that is a shame. Throughout the years some top players have come through from non-league and gone on to have great careers in the league.

Ian Wright is one man that springs to mind, Steve Bull is another. Both were late into the professional game. Both did so well.

Matt Derbyshire was also a success for Blackburn and is doing well at Birmingham now.

And former Southport ace Carl Baker is now on the verge of a move to Birmingham after finding his way into the pro game.

There can be success stories – it is just a shame too many clubs are not prepared to look hard enough.

So take a bow Paul Ince, now of Notts County. Ince has taken Marine’s Jamie Rainford on trial and believes he can be a star.

Good luck to the pair of them.
