CLITHEROE’S play-off hopes in Evo-Stik First Division Nor-th suffered a blow after throw-ing away a three-goal lead against lowly Cammell Laird.

The Shawbridge side appeared to be coasting to a 3-0 win to keep the pressure on Chester and Chorley at the top of the table before a dramatic final 10 minutes.

Alex Brees had given the Blues the lead with a timely goal right on the stroke of half time.

And that lead was doubled 10 minutes in to the second half when Darren Green made it 2-0.

And the points appeared to be in the bag when Jason Jones made it 3-0 just four minutes later.

When Danny Andrews pulled one back on 80 minutes, it appeared to be nothing more than a consolation.

Marc Stephens cut the gap to one in the 84th minute before that match took one ore dramatic turn when Lee Atherton headed home an injury time equaliser.

The surprise dropped points mean Pete Smith’s side have dropped from third place to fifth with AFC Fylde and Curzon Ashton — who both won at the weekend — leaping above them in the league table.
