QUITE a lot has been said about Steve Cotterill's strongest team at the start of his third season.

At home, I think Burnley should be bold without being foolish.

I would like to see us play a 3-5-2 formation, starting this Saturday against QPR for the opening game of the season.

Of course, formations do not win games, it's the attitude of the players. But let's try and take the bull by the horns.

Over the last few years, I've watched every home game and those ones we've lost or drawn, we've been capable of winning them. We are capable of beating any side at Turf Moor.

So I think, at home, we should be seen to be bold, attacking teams and putting them under pressure.

With a 3-5-2 formation, we would have three centre-halves. The formation gives us strength in midfield, with two wide men who can get forward and supply crosses to the strikers.

We've tended to stick one man up front on his own, even at home, but I think we should go with two. Steve Jones played wide-right against Bolton in pre-season, but I would like to see him alongside Andy Gray.

In wide positions, Jon Harley would be okay on the left with possibly Wade Elliott on the right and Alan Mahon inside him. We've got quality players that can play in midfield and even Micah Hyde won't be out of the reckoning.

As I've said, formations don't win you anything and it would change for away games. Steve will look at the opposition for each game, look at their strengths and weaknesses, and make his choices. But at home, let's not think about the opposition. Picking up points at home is essential.

Finally, I'm happy to see Wayne Thomas as captain.

He's capable of doing a good job.
