CHILLED out Burnley striker Andy Gray has wasted no time enjoying the sights of Lake Garda.

Hotel Sport Veronello, Burnley's luxury training complex, sits in sedate surroundings and within a stone's throw of the picture-postcard lake.

It is an idyllic setting for the Clarets players and staff, and Gray has already got on his bike to view one of Europe's most sensational tourist spots with his own eyes.

"It's beautiful," said the former Sunderland man.

"We just went on our bikes to have a ride down to Lake Garda and have a look around.

"We went right down to the front. It's beautiful, just nice, with all the restaurants.

"It took about five or 10 minutes going down there on the bike. It's all downhill going down there, so a bit tougher coming back."

As well as being a top-class facility for visiting football clubs enjoying a summer retreat, Sport Hotel Veronello caters for cycling enthusiasts.

And if Burnley's players do not fancy taking a spin on two wheels, they can wind down in other ways, although Gray reckons it can be difficult passing the time on location.

He added: "These summer trips are okay. There's just not a lot to do. It's just training and getting ready for the season.

"In between, we are playing computer games or reading books or whatever.

"But these places are good for team-bonding, that's a good thing."

Gray is enjoying a good pre-season after twice netting in Burnley's opening three friendly games.

Against Accrington Stanley, he got his summer scoring off the mark, heading home from close range after Alan Mahon's blockbuster cracked the bar.

He added another against Bolton Wanderers at Turf Moor on Saturday.

But Gray insists that during pre-season, team results and his own goalscoring feats count for nothing.

"So far it's gone pretty well," said Gray, 28. "It was nice to get off the mark, but I want to do it in the league.

"But it's not really about the results in pre-season.

"I think in pre-season you can lose every game but then play really well and win the first league game.

"But it could be the other way round. You could have a really good pre-season and then not win any games. So we don't really want to read too much into it.

"It's all fitness really and hopefully everybody is raring to go when the season starts in a few weeks."
