BURNLEY manager Brian Laws has offered assurances that a knock which forced Chris McCann’s early exit from their first friendly in Singapore has not given them cause for concern.

The midfielder was taken off as a precaution half an hour into yesterday’s 5-0 thrashing of Gombak United following a clash of knees.

The Clarets are particularly wary of any incidents involving the Dubliner, given that he missed most of last season through two separate knee injuries, and are monitoring his comeback carefully.

As a result, they were keen not to take any chances and immediately withdrew McCann from the action at the Tampines Stadium.

But Laws said: “The physio assures me there is nothing to worry about, his knee has been iced down and he should be okay.

“He has had a clash of knees and just numbed the side of his knee a little bit.

"It was a precaution to take him off because he could have come back on,” said Laws.

“We are all concerned when a player goes down, especially Chris McCann after the trouble he had last year with his knee and we don’t want that to happen again.

“Chris has had a fantastic pre-season, he has worked so hard and nobody is concerned about the injury.“
