ACCRINGTON’S Nikki Foster is just three steps away from winning this year’s English Open Amateur Championships.
The 18-year-old Pleasington member takes her place in today’s tournament matchplay quarter-finals after winning both her first and second round matches yesterday.
Foster, a runner-up in both the Scottish Open and Welsh Open, is looking to make it third time lucky at the English event at Broadstone, in Dorset.
She made a scintillating start when heading the field after a two-under opening round of 70.
Despite dropping a few places down the leaderboard with a second round 75, she comfortably qualified into the knockout matchplay stages.
Yesterday morning, she defeated Hermione Fitzgerald, of Royal Worlington & Newmarket, 4&3 in the first round and, in the afternoon, she beat England Curtis Cup player Holly Clyburn, of Woodhall Spa, in the second round.
She is expected to face Ferndown’s Hayley Davis in this morning’s quarter-final. The tournament’s final is held tomorrow.
