ACCRINGTON Stanley’s average gate rose by an impressive 40 per cent this season – finally moving them off the bottom of the Football League’s attendance list.

Stanley, who play their final game of the campaign at Cheltenham this afternoon, have had the lowest average attendance in all four divisions for the past two seasons, with the figure dropping from 1,634 to a worrying 1,414 last term.

But a combination of cheap season tickets, improved performances on the pitch and supporters turning out to help the club through their financial crisis have seen their league average rise to 1,977 this season, higher than Macclesfield's 1,887.
