ACCRINGTON bowler David Ormerod won't need extra motivation in beating his old side BACUP tomorrow.

Ormerod spent 18 years at Lanehead before an acrimonious departure saw him return to the club he started at.

And he admitted that the prospect of playing against his former colleagues, and Kiwi star Chris Cairns, will give him an added impetus to do well.

He said: "I'm going into the game with some trepidation but I'm certainly looking forward to it.

"I still have a lot of friends at the club and it'll be nice to see them again but it'll be strange playing against them.

"I've bowled at the likes of Peter Thompson and John Chapman in the nets for the past 18 years so I have a bit of insight in how they bat but they know how I bowl so it should be interesting.

"I'm sure there'll be a bit of friendly banter knocking about but we need a win to keep us up there."

Bacup captain John Chapman is looking forward to playing against Ormerod for the first time since his move to Thorneyholme Road, but he's quick to play down any suggestions of animosity between his club and the former skipper.

Chapman said: "I've known Dave for 20 years and he's a great lad.

"What happened is water under the bridge now. I'm sure we'll all have a chat with him before the game and a couple of drinks afterwards."

Peter Thompson needs a shoulder operation, ruling him out for six weeks, so young all-rounder Chris Bleasdale steps in.

RAWTENSTALL take on high-flying ENFIELD looking for their third win on the bounce.

Back-to-back victories against Ramsbottom and Colne has given the Worswick Memorial Ground side the belief they can still mount a challenge.

Afraz Ali and Andy Riley return at the expense of Paul Bingham and John Dawson.

South African all-rounder Ghulam Bodi will step in for Alviro Petersen as Enfield look to get back to winning ways.

Bodi, who plays alongside Petersen in South Afrcian domestic cricket, has 700 runs so far in the Staffordshire League and Enfield skipper David Bracewell is hoping he can replicate that form and put his side back on top.

He said: "We need to get back to winning ways but we'll have a hard task at Rawtenstall.

"I would have expected them to be a top half side and they're getting back to some sort of form but we need a win."

COLNE captain, David Swarbrick, is calling on his players to show the fighting spirit displayed in last weekend's Worsley Cup semi final defeat.

The Horsfield side, who go to leaders RAMSBOTTOM, narrowly lost to Burnley but only after mounting a superb late fightback.

Swarbrick said: "The lads were devastated after that game but it showed they cared."

John Lambert replaces the unavailable Matthew Clark.

Ramsbottom will be without skipper Richard Hevingham after he was hit with a ban following an altercation with an umpire at Lowerhouse.

Alex Bell is also missing so Simon Read and Mark Dentith come in.

Hevingham said: "Anybody can beat anybody in this league and it's the side that puts together two or three wins that will put themselves in the box seat going into the run-in."

NELSON captain Mike Bradley says his players are playing for Worsley Cup final places as they face HASLINGDEN tomorrow.

His side lie in sixth, 10 points behind the leaders, but Bradley will be telling his players to put the final behind them.

He said: "There's a lot of cricket to play before the final in August.

"It's fantastic to get there but we have to concentrate on each game because nobody's place is guaranteed.

Paul Harris will be Nelson's professional tomorrow for Robin Peterson who is away with South Africa.

Haslingden welcome back Lewis McIntosh and James Hayhurst, replacing Rob Marcroft and Joe Sipocz, ahead of their clash with the Worsley Cup finalists.

LOWERHOUSE have to take the rough with the smooth as they welcome back professional Ryan Harris from injury but lose the services of all-rounder Jon Finch again for the trip to Todmorden.

Jonny Russell, who has also been out injured, has been named in the side.

Todmorden welcome new pro Jacques Rudolph into the side for the departed Morne van Wyk. Also, Matt Brierley replaces James Crossley.

EAST LANCS have turned to Crompton's South African professional Craig Williams as they look to get their season back on track at the expense of Church.

Church captain Phil Sykes is calling on big improvements in his side's batting ranks ahead of a trip to fellow strugglers East Lancs.

"This game is a big chance to get off the bottom," said Sykes.

"Everybody is playing well, it is not like we are getting hammered by teams.

"But we just need to get more runs in the middle order."

RISHTON are closing in on Australian left-hander Lachlan Stevens as they seek a replacement for their injured professional Vernon Philander.

The 27-year-old Queenslander has agreed to join for the rest of the season but the club are now sweating on a work permit, which they hope will be granted in the next few days.

"He's agreed to sign so we're just waiting on a work permit now but, hopefully, he'll be here by the middle of next week," said skipper Peter Sleep.

Rishton face third-placed Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow and they hope to have a West Indian from the Staffordshire League as their substitute professional.

Worsley cup finalists Burnley head into their home clash against Rishton aiming to close the gap on Ramsbottom.

The Turf Moor side have climbed to third following a terrific run of form, although they will be missing all-rounders Daniel Pickup and Michael Kelly for the match.
