LANCASHIRE went down to another defeat in the CB40 as they fell short at Hove in their game with Sussex.

The Red Rose, who had target the competition as one of their silverware aims this season, were put onto the back foot when the home side batted first - and batted well.

Andy Hodd continued his impressive form with 91 in Sussex’s mammoth 245-7 against Lancashire.

Hodd hit a century in Sussex’s County Championship defeat to Middlesex during the week and took just 77 balls to lead his side towards a third successive 40-over win.

Kyle Hogg claimed two wickets for Lancashire and there was also a two-wicket haul for Steve Parry with one each for Oliver Newby and Daren Powell.

Lancashire needed a good start in their reply and got just that through Paul Horton (30), Stephen Moore (25) and Steve Croft (32).

But after those three, Lancashire struggled and only Parry made any real impact with 26.

Hogg was unable to bat and in the end Lancashire crumbled to 205-9.
