Burnley's proposed pre-season fixture against Chievo Verona remains unclear after the latest twist involving the match-fixing scandal hitting Italian football.
Serie A outfit Chievo were planned opponents for one of two dates pencilled for games during Burnley's six-day training trip from July 23 to 29.
But that friendly has been thrown into doubt due to the match-fixing scandal surrounding Italian clubs Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina, who have been accused of rigging games by selecting favourable referees.
If the four implicated clubs are found guilty and punished by relegation, Chievo could steal a Champions League spot, with potential preliminary phase matches likely to alter their pre-season preparations.
The trial was due to begin yesterday but was opened and adjourned until Monday, July 3, which could further complicate Burnley's hard work to sow up the Chievo friendly.
Regardless of the trial verdict, the Clarets will travel to Italy's Lake Garda region as planned.
