ALL-rounder Tom Smith has admitted he hasn't stopped smiling yet after Lancashire booked their place at Lord's in the C&G Trophy on Sunday.

Lancashire beat Warwickshire at Edgbaston to win the Northern Conference and earn the right to face Sussex on August 6.

And the former Chorley pro admitted that the fact he was about to play in a major final in his first season hadn't sunk in yet.

He said: "It's a dream come true. To get to the C&G Final in my first season is unbelievable, It's something I've dreamed of since I first picked up a cricket bat.

"I remember watching the great Lancashire side of the 1990s and I always wondered what it would be like to go down to Lord's for a big final.

"And I can't wait for the big day to arrive."

Lancashire will go into the game as hot favourites after topping both the C&G and Liverpool Victoria County Championship tables.

And Smith reckons they will have the edge over Sussex after handing them a two-day hiding in their recent Championship match.

He added: "We know we have a great chance. we beat Sussex in two days but we know they won't be a pushover.

"But with the players we have in the side and people like Andrew Flintoff, Glen Chapple, Sajid Mahmood and Jimmy Anderson to potentially come back into the side then we have a great chance."

But Smith, who played in Lancashire's opening Twenty20 game defeat at Derbyshire last night, said he was setting his sights high.

"It would be fantastic to win the C&G Trophy. But we've been close to winning the Twenty20 cup for the last couple of seasons so it would be nice to finally win that.

"And we're sitting nicely at the top of the County Championship table and with the form we're in we're confident we can win every game.

"We have a great belief in the dressing room and we're aiming high.

"But just to win one would be unbelievable in my first season."
