DYNAMIC midfielder Ian Craney is relishing a competitive new season with Accrington Stanley.

The 24-year-old, who was on international duty in the Four Nations Tournament last week with the England National Game XI squad, is looking forward to the outcome of manager John Coleman's transfer wheeling and dealing in the summer.

And he says competition for places can only be good for the squad as they seek to make an impact in Coca Cola League Two.

Coleman has already strengthened his midfield with the capture of 21-year-old winger Sean Dogherty and Craney said: "I'm keen to see who else we are going to sign.

"I don't think we need to improve the squad we've got that much, because I think we are all good enough to play at that level.

"I think it's just a case of needing to increase the squad size."

He added: "I can't wait until the fixtures come out next month.

"I don't really mind who we play first but you'll always look out for the big clubs like Walsall and Swindon, plus the local clubs because there are going to be a few derbies next season.

"I thought Halifax was going to be another one because I thought they were going to do it in the play-offs.

"But, in my opinion, Hereford deserve to go up because they were our closest challengers and they're a good team."

Craney will now enjoy a well-earned break after his and Gary Roberts' season only finished on Saturday.

The duo were part of the England National Game XI squad which ended as runners up in the Four Nations Tournament to Wales by just one goal.

Both sides were unbeaten but Wales topped the table after beating the Republic of Ireland 3-0 while England beat Scotland 2-0 on the final day of the competition.
