CLARETS midfielder Wade Elliott is expecting Burnley to be involved in a push for promotion next season.

Elliott, who arrived last summer from Bournemouth, started 23 games for Steve Cotterill's side and helped the Clarets into the play-off places at Christmas.

But despite finishing 17th in the Coca-Cola Championship table, Elliott is confident that with the new additions brought to Turf Moor at the end of the campaign, and a few new faces following the capture of Steve Jones, the Clarets can be serious promotion contenders.

"I think we'll be much better for this season, the new lads who came in January have got to know the place and the rest of the players and they will make a big contribution next season.

"For a few of us, it was our first season in this division and hopefully we'll be stronger next season as well so I think we will be looking to improve on what we have done this year."

Despite his optimism, Elliott also looked back on the end of the campaign with disappointment.

After a bright start to the season, he spent much of the run-in on the bench.

But he admitted he was satisfied with his performances over the season as a whole.

He added: "On a personal note, I have not played too much in the last few weeks so it's finished with a tinge of disappointment for me because you want to be in the team and doing well.

"However, I think when I go away over the summer and sit down and have a decent think about it I will be happy with how it has gone over the whole term.

"I look forward to coming back stronger."

and wiser for the experience that I have had this year."
