BLACKBURN boss Mark Hughes has urged the FA to stick with Sven Goran Eriksson for the World Cup.

Eriksson's position as the England manager has come under fresh scrutiny following the News of the World's fake sheikh' sting last weekend.

But former Wales boss Hughes believes it would be sheer lunacy if the FA decided to axe the Swede now, just months before the World Cup finals get underway.

"I have sympathy for Eriksson because he was stung' and there is more pressure on him than I ever experienced with Wales," said Hughes.

"Don't sack him, not just before a World Cup.

"All managers know they are going to be sacked one day. Maybe he was covering all bases."
