DISGRUNTLED Burnley fans are urging the club to put the fans first and switch the away trip to Brighton to give the travelling support an easier journey.

Burnley are due to play Brighton on Tuesday, January 31 but with both sides being knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend, a number of fans are hoping to see the game switched to the Saturday before (January 28), the date of the FA Cup fourth round.

Sources from the south coast say Brighton want to make the switch but claim Burnley weren't able to accomodate the change.

But Burnley chief executive Dave Edmundson denied Brighton's claims, saying the club has had discussions with manager Steve Cotterill but the situation was still up in the air but .

He said: "We haven't made any decision yet. We've had discussions with the manager but the situation is still on-going.

"But we haven't had an official approach from Brighton."

The travelling Clarets faithful put in the miles over the Christmas period with journeys to Norwich and QPR and have more long away trips coming up this month.

John Nagle, a spokeman for the Football League, said the game could be switched if both clubs made a formal approach to the league.

And Paul Smith, a committee member of the Boundary Clarets Supporters Club, said the club had a duty to put the fans first on this issue.

He said: "I would urge the club to move this fixture and think of the fans for once.

"It would benefit supporters, players, press - everyone. It makes common sense to move the game and the club should have consideration for the travelling fans who follow the club through thick and thin."

"It's a 600-mile round trip for the hardcore Burnley fans and it'll be much easier to do it on a Saturday than on a Tuesday night when we won't get in until about 4am on the Wednesday."

Alan Beecroft, treasurer of the Colne Clarets Supporters Club, reckons moving the game would benefit all parties.

He said: "The Burnley fans have had a long, hard Christmas and it's been absolutely crazy. Nobody wants to go down to Brighton on a Tuesday night.

"We've had long away trips over Christmas and the New Year and we've got Cardiff, Brighton and Ipswich coming up in quick succession so switching the Brighton game to the Saturday would make sense.

"More Burnley fans would be able to attend without having to take two days off work to see the match.

"Everyone I have spoken to wants the game put back to January 28 and with what the fans have put up with over the Christmas period then I think it should."
