CLARETS duo Wade Elliott and Michael Duff have given their backing to this summer's BT Paralympic World Cup.
The four-event tournament is to be held in Manchester from May 25-31, and the long-serving Burnley pair teamed up with Manchester city and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given to promote football 7-a-side – an adaptation of the sport for athletes with cerebral palsy – at the city's Arndale Centre yesterday.
The Great Britain team, captained by Jordan Raynes, will take on the Netherlands, USA and the Repulic of Ireland at the Manchester Regional Arena.
And Elliott revealed how the players were hoping Burnley's impressive home form would prove to be a good omen for the GB squad.
“They did mention that they'd be playing against full-time teams and those lads are part-time so I said to them 'you're the Burnley of the Paralympics'.
One of them said 'we're at home so we should be alright'.”
