Blackburn Hawks have a double header of tricky fixtures this weekend as they look to progress in both league and cup competitions.

Hawks first travel to Coventry Blaze tonight hoping to banish the spectre of last weekend’s double defeat in the English National Ice Hockey League North.

The Blackburn aces then host Solihull Barons in the ENIHL Cup at the Arena on Sunday (face-off 5.45pm) – a competition in which head coach Gary Buckman is keen for his side to progress.

“We are doing very well in the cup,” said Buckman.

“We have won four of our six games so far and there is a good chance we will finish in the top two and make the play-offs.

“As for the league match against Coventry, it is certainly a game we are looking to win.

"It is a tough place to go, but they are just a couple of points ahead of us in the league and we will be giving it our best shot.”

Hawks will have Ryan O’Reilly and Chris Arnone missing for both games, but remain hopeful that David Meikle will overcome injury and feature over the weekend.

Anthony Kinder will miss the trip to Coventry, but should be available on Sunday.
