NICKY Weaver is ready to make the most of his second Premier League chance and challenge Brian Jensen for the number one spot.

The former Manchester City and England under 21 stopper has been brought in on a free transfer until the summer as back-up for the Clarets’ long-serving Dane.

But with almost 60 top flight games under his belt, he wants to add to that tally.

“To get a chance to be back involved at this level is something that I perhaps thought might not come,” said Weaver.

And he has no qualms about trying to wrestle the gloves off Jensen, who has started all bar one of the last 86 games, stretching back to August 2008.

“If it wasn’t me it would be someone else,” said the 30-year-old, who had a career-saving operation five years ago, when a dead man’s cartilage was inserted into his knee.

“It’s just how it is. I’ve had it all through my career when you see a goalkeeper walking through the dressing room one morning and you think, ‘What’s he doing here?’ but there’s only one reason why he’s here.

“There won’t be a problem with me and Brian.”
