MICHAEL Bisping is set to take on a legendary fighter known as 'The Axe Murderer' as the Ultimate Fighting Championships hits Sydney for the first time.

Bisping will take on Wanderlei Silva at the American promotion's UFC 110 event on February 21 at the Acer Arena in Sydney.

The announcement comes less than a fortnight after the Clitheroe mixed martial artist defeated Denis Kang at the Manchester Evening News Arena to go 19-2-0 in his career.

The victory got the former St. Augustine RC High School pupil back up and running, following a devastating knockout defeat to Dan Henderson earlier in the year.

And now Bisping faces another massive challenge in MMA legend Silva, who takes his nickname due to his aggressive style. Silva has 32 wins in his career and is a former champion of another MMA promotion.

"It's an honour to be fighting someone with the legendary status of Wanderlei Silva. I recognise he's a very, very tough fighter," Bisping told www.mmabay.co.uk "I'm looking forward to the challenge and I'll certainly be doing my best to give the fans all over the world and especially in Australia a fantastic fight."
